For those just now converting to a more nutritionally balanced diet, please be aware that this conversion takes time. The conversion also takes place faster with proper hydration and exercise, especially important in the first few days. As you convert to nutritionally balanced diet, the goal is to raise your bodies pH (becoming more alkaline) which is where it needs to be in order to absorb nutrients from the food you take in. Once you are eating a nutritionally balanced diet can your body begin to restore its ideal state and start to detoxify. After a few days of super healthy eating & people feel great for a few days, then hit a wall. This is due to a buildup of toxins entering your bloodstream. Not by ingestion, but now they are being circulated to be expelled from the body as the fat cells storing them inside you are broken up during exercise. Your body is able to filter this out naturally but that process is slow and will take time. Many people have spent years loading up with toxins, don’t expect this process to run its course in a few days, you have to stick with it.
Speeding up the detox process
Proper hydration, exercise and getting some sun all will assist you here. Aerobic exercise is crucial during this period as it helps break up toxins lodged throughout your body. My personal favorite is called Bikrams Yoga where you have class inside a heated room for 90 minutes. This class really makes you sweat, which is one of the ways your body can rid itself of these toxins. Its also something that you want to eat a nutrient rich food source a few hours beforehand, then make sure you are hydrated and ready otherwise you might not make it for the whole time. These types of classes require focus and endurance. Ingredients like spirulina, maca, ginseng and acai are good to add to shakes / drinks taken beforehand to maximize energy in class. Natural protein shakes are good afterwards to minimize recovery time.
Important things to remember…
- Consider how long your body has been abused before getting frustrated in just a few weeks. Most have been overloading their bodies with toxins for years. This process takes time before you really have a break through.
- While detoxing, many of the toxins you are purging are addictive substances. These will be trying to trick your body into craving the exact same junk they came from. Be wary of this and try to absolutely avoid junk food products during this time, eventually these cravings will subside.
- The more you detox, the more you will find that eating even one item of junk food will have a much more profound effect than it used to. Pay attention to how you feel after you eat it.
- Education helps. Eventually you will see your old food choices as devoid of any nutrient value and will have a much easier time passing them up.
